Demi Moore Pitches Now and Then Sequel as Stars Reunite at Elle Match

Elle toasted a starry lineup of leading ladies at its annual Women in Hollywood event on Tuesday, recognizing Danielle Deadwyler, Karla Sofía Gascón, Selena Gomez, Mikey Madison, Demi Moore, Julianne Moore, Saoirse Ronan, Zoe Saldaña and Tilda Swinton for their creative and cultural contributions.

The night also brought out a number of A-list presenters, with Cameron Diaz presenting to the Emilia Pérez trio of Gomez, Saldaña and Gascón, John David Washington to Deadwyler and Willem Dafoe to Madison; Rita Wilson, Rosie O’Donnell and Melanie Griffith also teamed up to present to Moore, marking a reunion of their 1995 film Now and Then.

Taking the stage inside the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills, Moore recalled how “Now and Then was more than just a film to me, it was an adventure; it was a sweet story about friendship, resilience and navigating the ups and downs of life together. And here we are, fucking 30 years later, still standing side by side.”

The star mused, “We’ve shared so much of our past and there’s still more to come. With that thought, there must be someone out here who’s thinking, shouldn’t we do a remake or do a sequel of Now and Then, like Now and Again? Talk to me after,” to laughs from the crowd.

Ronan also had a particularly close connection to her presenter, Carey Mulligan, raving over her performance last year in Maestro, declaring, “This is not an exaggeration to say that I was changed after seeing your performance.” Ronan admitted she had sent “a very embarrassing, very blubbering voice note” to Mulligan after seeing the movie, and emphasized, “I’m still waiting on the project to come along that means that we can actually work together because I know that by working with you, you will only make me a better actor and there is still so much I want to learn from you. You are a rare diamond, Mulligan.”

With Elle editor-in-chief Nina Garcia delivering opening remarks, Pedro Almodóvar closed out the night with a presentation to his The Room Next Door stars Moore and Swinton. The event guest list also included Ariana Greenblatt, Colman Domingo, Eva Longoria, Helen Hunt, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Joshua Jackson, Justine Lupe, KiKi Layne, Monica Barbaro, Niecy Nash, Ryan Destiny, Samantha Hanratty, Selma Blair, Sophie Thatcher, Whitney Cummings and Xochitl Gomez.
